I'd like to revisit the 5th grader assumption. I'd rather write for a Linux user with the goal of making them and Embedded Linux user.

At least I wouldn't assume Linux user. Perhaps assume a computer user who could be new to the command-line and Linux? The 5th grader assumption is to make sure the language is accessible and to respect the time of the power computer user who is new to Linux and embedded.
